Pull & Bear - SS 2011 Campaign

I am completely in love with Pull & Bear Spring/Summer 2011 Campaign. There is such a romantic feel to it -- with the braids, flowers which added a softness to it.

I love how the editorials exudes such warmth, indicating that Spring is finally here and Summer is close by; time to shed some layers and bring in the denim jackets and light-weighted materials printed with floral designs.

All I have to say, it kudos to the Pull & Bear team, for producing such a beautiful campaign.

The Curve of Forgotten Things

For a 12 year old girl, Elle Fanning is quite a stunner. I love her in Rodarte's short film, The Curve of Forgotten Things, a collaboration between Kate and Laura Mulleavy and director-photographer Todd Cole. It gives off a melancholic feel to me, especially the scene where she was digging up things from the land in the past.

Personally, I love the styling and the soft hues of the clothes compared to the previously dark, edge collection in Spring 2010. Elle Fanning is amazing here, and she looks beyond her age. I can see why she is Rodarte's muse!

Vive La France

Wildfox Couture never cease to amaze me with their campaigns. I could just watch their Spring 2011 campaign, Vive La France all day long. I love their interpretation of a modern Marie Antoinette; from the styling, to the setting. They've managed to keep it true to the previous Wildfox ads, fun and flirty.

Everything here is p e r f e c t i o n.
Also, good music that goes with the video helps!

Lanvin X H&M

Lanvin X H&M has been flooding my Twitter page all day.
After all, who isn't excited? Me. Simply because we don't have H&M here in Malaysia.
What a bummer, I could use a piece of Lanvin.

Trendy Week

College life may be fun, but it can also be pretty hectic - especially if you are trying to maintain good grades, a social life and not to mention combat the daily routine each girl go through of having to decide what to wear for college. Theirin lies the beauty of school uniforms, and of course the sheer boredom that comes with it. I take my hats off to those who resist the urge of abandoning style and individuality for something a little more practical, such as jeans, tees, and sweatshirts; because I too am one of those who throw on a tank top and shorts to college due to time constraint and the want to stay in bed for a little while longer.

I get that comfort and practicality is key to a successful learning environment, but isn't it upsetting to just let that gorgeous article of clothing hang in your wardrobe untouched, and just waiting to be worn?

I say dress up; if not everyday, then at least once in a while. Be that person you watch on television, and admire, because she dresses up, even if it is to school and with an air of confidence, might I add (think Gossip Girl and 90210). Show the campus who you are as a person through style. I assure you, you won't go unnoticed, and of course, getting that one compliment about the ensemble you have on can really boost your confidence and make your day.

Which is why, I declared this week Trendy Week. Trisha and I will stop being lazy and make an effort to dress up in college this week. We actually planned to document this week by snapping shots of people whose outfit we adore, and even be Fashion Police (just for kicks - because we need to spice up our college life during our long breaks).

Lets see if we'll actually do it, the documenting bit I mean. I know one thing for sure, I am definitely going to dress up this week, not just because I jokingly declared it as Trendy Week, but because I realized that letting your gorgeous collection of clothing lay to the wayside is simply dissapointing and waiting for a special occasion to wear them is only futile when you have so much kept aside but only so many events to go to. And besides, why can't everyday be a special day?

Where The F- Is My Sailor

Now that Copenhagen Fashion Week has passed, I was browsing through runway pictures of certain designers. One of the few collections that caught my attention was by Ivana Helsinki for S/S 2011 which was showcased on Friday. The theme behind this collection is about a girl who waits for her sailor. Hence the provocative title, "Where The F- Is My Sailor".

Personally I love the play of contrasting colours, such as blue and orange. The quirky prints, colour and the hint of retro twist gives off a playful feel as opposed to the title of the collection.

Aside from that, I also thought that the rope details, anchor prints were simply brilliant. Being reputed for her bright colours and prints, I feel that Ivana Helsinski stayed true to her designs in this collection.

I might have gone a little too overboard with the holes, but hey, it's fun!

FACEHUNTER!!

What is one of the most exciting thing that has ever happened here in KL? No, it's not Black Eye Pea's concert or Akon's concert, because frankly, I don't listen to them much.

Yvan Rodic AKA Facehunter is visiting KL! Omigosh, oh wow, oh mon dieu, how crazy is that?! I am very upset because I'll be stuck at home studying for my SPM coming up in 3 weeks! Bummer.

To the few of you lucky people who are free from exams for the year, he will be at Zouk, Barsonic for the Toontown Horror (Halloween party) on October 31st. Don't forget to dress to impress, and perhaps I will see you featured in the Facehunter. Also, don't forget to show me some photos.

A New Kind of Fabric

Can anyone guess what this dress is made out of? I'll give you a hint, it is something all of us have in our house.

P h o n e b o o k. Wow. I had a hard time believing it myself! It's gorgeous though, isn't it? The talent behind this dress is Jolis Paons, who made this dress out of papers from the phonebook for a class assignment. From his intricate details, you can tell clearly that he has put a lot of effort in this assignment, from pleating, to sewing the "fabric".

I would love to wear this dress, but due to my clumsy finesse, I would probably rip it within seconds.

A while ago, I also stumbled upon a fellow DeviantART artist, Aimee Kick, an 18 year old girl who made her prom dress out of coffee filters, and had a matching necklace made out of none other than coffee beans by her dad to go along with the dress.


In her description, she mentioned that she tea-dyed the filter paper, dried them with a hair dryer, hand stitching, machine sewing..etc. How rad! Click here to see more pictures of her beautiful dress.

The first paper dress was made by Scott Paper Company in 1966, and costing only one dollar. However, it was shapeless and not very attractive. It's amazing to see how many young talents there are out there now, creating these masterpieces, out of recyclable materials!

Has anyone seen the episode of Project Runway, Season 6, Episode 5? That week, the designers' challenge was to create a clothing item, made out of newspaper. It was an interesting espisode, but I won't go into detail or post any pictures, as I don't want to spoil it any further for those of you who haven't been keeping up!

H&M Ad

I love this H&M ad campaign of Sasha Pivovarova shot by renowned fashion and celebrity photographer Terry Richardson. Doesn't she look stunning with that frisky-ribboned headband?

I recently found mine from when I was kid, from my "Goldilocks & The Three Bears" dress-up set. I might wear it out one day.

Did you say "Animal Ears"?

You know those goofy looking animal ears kids wear on Halloween? Who would've thought that it would take the fashion industry by storm. A new trend finally crept up; Animal Ears.
We've all seen them hitting the runway, but really, when did it all began? It seems like only yesterday, everyone was raving about ripped tights and Balmain's studded heels, and now suddenly Animal Ears are everywhere. Even several celebrity trendsetters such as , the Olsen Twins, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Madonna are sporting this kooky look!

Luella was credited for starting this whole wacky trend last summer, even though Comme des Garçons pioneered it way back in 2007, when her models strutted down the runway in "mouse ears", followed by Zac Posen. Of course, Mark Vassallo, a Fashion Director, who was then doing a fashion shot, couldn't be left out of the trend. He immediately contacted Nerida Winter,a hat maker to make him hats in hot pink, adorn with animal ears and little devil horns. After numerous exposure, this crazy trend was then caught on by Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs for their 2009 F/W Collection, as did Moschino Cheap & Chic.

What do you think? Will this trend ever be implemented in our daily wear, or is this just some daring trends only the elites will take on?

For me, I think the whole animal ears thing is quite adorable, and I would love to give it a go, especially since Halloween is coming soon! I remember having my own pair of "bear ears" which was a dress-up accessory I adored, and recently I tried searching for them, hoping that I might miraculously still have it. Alas, I threw them away a few years back, thinking that I've "outgrown" them and would never be caught in them. Who knew it would make such a statement now? With the Olsen Twins known for their fashion influence, this trend is bound to be going around for a while. I might just try making my own Maison Michel's inspired lace ears. It looks pretty do-able, no?
